Plants and Apples Theme

Plants and Apples Theme Unit This theme unit is a combination of the Plants and Apples mini-themes. To gain a better understanding of what is found in each of these mini-themes preview their corresponding website pages on the left-hand sidebar links. Plants Theme What is included in this theme? 1. In this theme unit you will find three emergent readers. One is used as a predictable chart to introduce the different types of plants found. The other reader is a retelling of the book "The Seed" by Eric Carle. The last book focuses on the importance of trees. 2. Related craft suggestions and templates are included. 3. Connection to Literature - The book "The Seed" by Eric Carle and "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein are incorporated into the unit. You will find follow-up emergent readers related to the books and craft suggestions. 4. Pictures for sorting (plants and animals) are found in the theme unit. 5. Math - Measuring and counting activities and their related templates can also be found. Apples Theme 1. Two emergent readers are found within this mini-theme. Each reader is a concept book on counting and also colors. The reader "Apples in the Meadow" requires the children to search, count and color the number of apples found in the meadow. It also introduces the letter "a" within its story context. This would be used to introduce number recognition. The reader "Falling Apples" is another concept reader that continues with number recognition but also introduces colors and their related words. 2. Connection to Literature - Each of the readers would be used in connection to the books "Ten Apples on Top" by Dr. Seuss and "Ten Red Apples" by Pat Hutchins. 3. Each reader has related craft follow-up activities. 4. Literacy - Alphabet matching, picture mnemonic alphabet and word family activities and their corresponding templates are also included. 5. Math - you will find matching numeral cards to match with corresponding number of seeds, matching shapes and sorting sizes templates can also be found.
