Many of the theme units include engaging learning experiences through the use of games.  The games outlined below flow sequentially. They are used to reinforce skills and concepts that have been introduced throughout the theme units.

Weather Theme - Concepts Developed Through the Games

Game Concept 1 - Children will be able to identify activities that take place when it is cool/cold or warm/hot.

Game Concept 2 - Identify the letter "c" and its corresponding sound.

Game Concept 3 - Identifying the letter "u" and its corresponding sound.

Family and Pets Theme Unit

Game Concept 1 - The game will help reinforce the sounds of "c, u, a, t, e, m, q, r, h, n, i and d" that have been introduced previously.

Game Concept 2 - Matching words to the corresponding pictures of pets.  This would require them to use their initial letter sound knowledge or ability to visually discriminate.

Concept 3 - The children would by applying their phonemic awareness ability in hearing rhyme.  They would be matching rhyming picture cards.

Zoo and Shapes Theme Unit

Game Concept 1 - The children will be identifying zoo animals and their names.

Game Concept 2 - The children will be matching zoo animal pictures or identifying their beginning letter sounds.

Game Concept 3 -  The children will be developing a concept chosen by the teacher (sight words).

Ocean Theme Unit

Game Concept 1 - Children will be identifying the sea animals introduced using the emergent reader.

Game Concept 2 - Children will be matching the alphabet letters to pictures that begin with that sound.

Game Concept 3 - Children will focusing on a concept the teacher has chosen.

Space, Robots and Earth Day Theme Unit

Game Concept 1- The children will be matching rhyming pictures or identifying sight words.

Game Concept 2 - The game will help reinforce all the alphabet sounds introduced (all of them except "y").

Transportation Theme Unit

Game Concept 1 - The game will reinfoce all the alphabet sounds introduced.

Game Concept 2 -  The children will be identifying rhyming, matching or recognizing sight words.

Note:  There are 156 Alphabet Picture Cards found in the member's area.  These are great to use for developing phonemic awareness activities and other alphabet related games.

Supplementary Themes

These themes are not part of the "Alphabet Program".  They could be used in conjunction with the program or after the program is completed.  Some of the games do require the children to have a knowledge of their alphabet and related sounds because it is assumed the program was followed.

Fall Theme Unit

Game Concept 1 - The children will be identifying the letters "l and g" and their corresponding sounds.

Game Concept 2 - The children will determine if the pictures belong to the season of "Fall, Winter and Spring"

Concept 1 - The children will be identifying "real and make" believe picture

Concept 2 -The children will identify the ending sounds of "f, m and p".

Concept 3 - The children will be reading simple CVC words.
