Kindergarten and Preschool Themes Literature Integration

The book "My Friend Isabelle" is a wonderful book to read to the children. It introduces the concept of how children can be good friends even if they have individual differences. It offers an excellent opportunity for follow-up discussions.
Kindergarten and Preschool Themes Beginning Reading Skills Integration
After reading the book, the emergent reader "Family of Friends" found in the link below could be used to introduce beginning reading skills. It could be made into a big book, pictures and print placed in a pocket chart, placed on an overhead transparency or written on chart paper with the pictures accompanying the print to use for shared reading (information on shared reading can be found under the heading on the left-sidebar under Reading Strategies).

A picture added to the name would help the children read the name.

Children can make a friendship necklace or bracelet using colored Cheerios. The teacher designates a certain number of cheerios that are to be used to complete the activity. The children must use their counting ability to complete the project. The children could also complete this using color patterning.
