Clifford the Big Dog Literacy Lesson Plans

This specific unit uses the Clifford series by Norman Bridwell and other literature selections written by this author. All lesson plans are based on a highly effective balanced literacy approach to teaching language arts.  This  specific unit is part of a complete program to meet the majority of the core curriculum outcomes.

Using the Follow-up Emergent Readers

Shared Reading Follow-Up

The companion emergent reader “Fox and the Big Dog” would be used as a follow-up to model the reading process and to introduce the following:

Alphabet Letters:  Dd for “dog” and Xx for “fox”

Pre Primer Sight Words:  big, jump, play, funny

Literacy Center Activities

Alphabet, Phonemic-Phonological Awareness and Rhyming Activities

Alphabet and phonemic/phonological awareness games and activities are included in the unit.  These are engaging and fun activities used to meet the core curriculum outcomes.

Sight Word Activities

The focus sight words in this unit are big, jump, play, funny.  The game activities displayed in the photograph are meant to assist the students in learning the focus sight words.

Writing and Craft Activities

Writing Activity

All lesson plan units include a follow-up writing and craft activity. The students would complete the craft/writing activity displayed. The students would use the Clifford template to complete the craft project. The writing template is also included.
