As a Kinderplans member you will have access to over 150 craft templates for preschool and kindergarten crafts. This page features a few of the craft projects offered through the different theme units. You will notice many of the craft suggestions have a literature connections associated with them.
Preschool/Kindergarten Christmas - Follow-up Crafts
Christmas Elf Craft - A Room Full of Elves
This makes a wonderful bulletin board display or Christmas ornament (could be laminated and a string or pipe cleaner could be attached to hang it from the Christmas tree). This craft could be completed after reading the literature selection The Polar Express. In the Christmas theme unit there is also an emergent reader that corresponds to the literature selection.
1. Take a picture of each child's face. This will require cropping to approximately a 4 X 6 head size (150 zoom).
2. Copy the elf template onto white card stock.
3. Have children color the elf.
4. The hat, body and face is cut.
5. Arrange the elf as shown in the picture and glue it together
The template to complete the craft is available to members.
Christmas Stocking Shape Card
1. Copy the template in the link below. 2. Fold it in half and color or sponge paint the stocking red or use it as a tracer on red construction paper ( ensure it is letter-sized construction paper). 3. Cut along the bold lines of the stocking part leaving the folded part uncut. 4. Children can cut the outside and inside verses along the dotted lines in the links below. The pictures on the verses can be colored (optional) and glued to the outside and inside of the card. 5. Glue on other decorations like tinsel, sequins and glitter glue.

Scarecrow Craft - Paper Plate Scarecrow - After reading the book The Scarecrow's Hat by Ken Brown to the children the paper plate scarecrow would be completed. Paper shred and yellow construction paper would be glued on the paper plate. The hat would be painted and the bow tie colored. This would be glued to the paper plate. After, facial features would be added.

Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Winter
After reading the book The First Day of Winter by Denise Fleming to the children, the snow globe would be used as a follow-up activity. The snow globe template would be painted blue with white drops of white for the snow. After it dries, the snowman's hat and scarf would be colored and cut. The snowman would be cut, assembled and glued on the snow globe. Glitter glue could be added as a final touch.
Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Spring
The story Sunshine Makes the Seasons by Franklyn M. Branley would be read to the children to help them understand why we have seasonal changes.
Spring Tree Craft Follow-up Activity
The tree trunk would be colored brown, the sky and grass would be painted. Red, pink and white tissue paper would be torn and scrunched and added to the tree.
Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Thanksgiving
In the link below you will find a template of a cornucopia.
1. Have the children paint the cornucopia with watercolors
2. Children dictate what they are thankful for and this glued on.
3. Surround their dictation with pictures of food. These pictures can be cut from supermarket advertisements or they can be found in the members' area.

Craft Activity About Physical Differences - Who Lives Here?
After reading the "Eye Book by Dr. Seuss there would be a discussion on physical differences such as eye and hair color. As a follow-up, the children would complete the craft activity "Who Lives Here?" as displayed in the photograph. The house would be painted or colored. The children would color in their eye and hair color. A photograph or drawing of the child would be glued on. The doors to the house would be assembled. The children would guess who is behind the doors using the hair and eye color as a clue.
Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Apples Theme
In the book Ten Apples Up on Top a lion, dog and tiger try to balance a different amount of apples on top of their heads. The children could paint and add other features to the templates as displayed in the photographs. A chosen amount of apples would be colored,cut and glued on the top of the selected animal's heads.
After reading the book Elmer's Colors by Donald McKee the children can make the main character Elmer the elephant as seen in the literature selection. They would color the graph provided in the theme unit and after trace the elephant shape on top and cut it out as displayed above.
Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Community Helpers Theme
We Are Community Helpers
The children would choose a community helper outline they wish to portray. These different community helper templates are found within the theme unit. The children would color the body and it would be cut out. The children could draw their head or a 4X 6 photograph could be taken and added to the body. This would require some cropping (250 zoom).

Rosie's Walk Craft
Children would make complete this project after reading the literature selection Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins. Painter's masking tape would be secured around the paper on cardboard to prevent it from curling. The sky would be painted blue and the base green for the grass. Tracers would be made in advance (on card stock). The children would trace the hen's body parts on construction paper, cut and assemble as displayed in the photograph. Prior to gluing, the legs would be painted and then the body glued to the paper.
Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Family and Pets Theme
Families Come in All Colors, Shapes and Sizes
The focus on the "Family" portion of the theme unit is to appreciate similarities and differences within families. Reading the books Families Are Special by Norma Simon or The Family Book by Todd Parr or Families Are Forever by Craig Shemin and Deb Capone allow for disucssion in this area. The craft activity displayed on the left would be a great follow-up. The shapes would be colored (could be copied on colored paper) and cut. The children glue these to the house picture frame and add body parts to the shapes to represent how Families Come in All Colors, Shapes and Sizes.
Learning About Pets
Dog and Cat Writing
This craft project also combines writing. The children would be printing or dictating on what they learned about dogs and cats from reading the emergent reader Dogs, Dogs and books. They would paint the dog and cat templates and cut them out. These would be assembled as displayed in the photograph.
Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Ocean Theme
The children paint the fish template (light color). The shapes would be copied on colored paper. The children cut the shapes and glue them accordingly as marked on the template. This is a good review of shapes that were introduced in math.

Preschool and Kindergarten Crafts - Transportation Theme
After reading the book The Little Engine That Could to the children, the craft to the right would be completed. The square face would be copied on blue cardstock or paper and cut. The other shapes would be colored, cut and added to the face to make the train as displayed in the photograph.
